There’s a chance to take part in a packed afternoon of fun and free activities, to celebrate the success of the Active Kirkfield initiative.

Since June, Active Withernsea has been working with Kirkfield residents to better understand their barriers and solutions to being more active. In partnership with East Riding Leisure Withernsea, The Hut, Withernsea Children’s Centre and East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Play and Community Engagement Team, Active Withernsea hosted weekly play and activity sessions, to give the community a platform to share their experiences and thoughts. Ideas shared at the sessions include providing more opportunities to experience boxing, cycling, swimming, football, family activity sessions, and sea sports activities such as paddle boarding. These ideas will now be developed further between Active Withernsea and the community, with the aim to get the Kirkfield community to take the lead on delivering these ideas.

To celebrate, Active Withernsea and the project partners will be hosting an Active Kirkfield Celebration Event on Friday 3 September, at East Riding Leisure Withernsea, between 12 noon and 4pm. Everyone from the Withernsea community is welcome to come along, get involved and have some fun.

It’s promised to be a fun afternoon filled with free activities, music, food and an Information Market. Activities include Wake Boarding and a chance to create music with the Beats Bus. You can even try out a full-size Boxing Ring with professional coaches from the Workout Boxing Academy. At the information market, you’ll be able to have a chat with the Active Withernsea team about your experiences with being active. It will all be topped off with live moving music from the amazing Bandarama and a giant puppet.  Kirkfield residents will also have the opportunity to enjoy a free swim session between 4 – 5pm and there will also be a free prize draw for a four-month family leisure pass to East Riding Leisure Withernsea.

Emma Kelly, Active Withernsea Development and Implementation Lead, said: “We’ve really enjoyed working with the residents of Kirkfield to better understand their needs and ideas, to help more people in their community get active.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that has attended our weekly activity sessions. We hope as many people as possible can join us at the celebration event.”
