A brand new bistro has just opened its doors in Kingswood – and it’s already getting a lot of local love.
Esca is the newest addition to Monks Way Retail Park, and it’s bringing something fresh to the area with its stylish interior, warm and friendly vibe, and a menu full of great-tasting food. It’s run by Shorni and her mum Katrina, who’ve previously run a few popular cafes across Hull. When this unit came up for sale, they jumped at the chance – and it’s easy to see why.
The name Esca comes from the Latin word for food, especially flavoursome food – and that’s exactly what you’ll find here. On our visit, we kicked things off with drinks: an indulgent ultimate hot chocolate, an iced matcha, a proper cup of tea, and a creamy vanilla milkshake with a swirl of caramel syrup. All spot on.
Food-wise, we tried the smashed avo on sourdough with feta and sun-dried tomatoes – one of the best we’ve had in Hull – plus the full Esca breakfast with black pudding and sourdough toast, and the breakfast wrap with their signature Esca sauce. That sauce has a satisfying little kick to it that makes the wrap really stand out.
The menu also includes smash burgers, toasted ciabattas, paninis, salads and jacket potatoes – and most of it is under a tenner, which is always good to see.
There’s more to come, too. They’re planning weekend steak nights and live music, Sunday lunch sharing boards, and ‘kids eat free’ deals in the school holidays – so there’s a lot to look forward to.
Esca is now open at Monk’s Way Retail Park in Kingswood – well worth checking out next time you’re in the area.
