Meet Hilda, Sheila and Eva, Needlers’ factory workers, in 1936, and see how local and national events affected their lives. The ladies reminisce about the period from 1900 to 1936 which saw the rise of workers’ and women’s rights and they discuss the strikes of 1911, how women kept the country running during the First World War and the cause of Women’s Suffrage. As it is based in 1936, the rise of fascism is also shown when Hull gets an unwelcome visitor.
The play’s dialogue features various speeches of the time drawn from the archives and the May Geslins provide the odd protest song or two to keep things moving along.
