A very special family fun day is happening in Hull this August — and it’s all in memory of a little girl whose story is already inspiring a vital national campaign.
The Family Fun Day will take place at The Spotted Dog, Inglemire Lane, Hull, on Sunday 10th August 2025, from 12pm until close. Everyone is invited — bring your family, friends, and workmates for what promises to be a fun, community-spirited afternoon with a deeper purpose.
The event is being held in memory of two-year-old Lyla Story, whose sudden passing this May from undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes has moved hearts across the country and sparked an urgent call for change.
Her family are raising funds for Breakthrough T1D UK and campaigning for a simple but life-saving change: routine testing for Type 1 Diabetes in babies, toddlers, and young children when they visit their GP — particularly if they show any concerning symptoms. Known as Lyla’s Law, the proposed change would also promote better awareness and use of existing NICE guidelines among healthcare professionals, helping protect the youngest and most vulnerable patients who may not be able to explain how they feel.
There will be plenty for everyone to enjoy, including a chocolate board, tombola, raffles, auction, and live entertainment from The Society of M.I.C.E. The organisers are also welcoming donations of raffle prizes — but most of all, your presence and support is what truly matters.
Tragically, little Lyla passed away just 16 hours after being seen by a GP, with her symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes not detected or tested for. Her family are determined to raise awareness and push for change to help prevent other families from facing the same heartbreak.

This family fun day is your chance to support their campaign and honour Lyla’s memory — all while enjoying a brilliant community event this summer.
