Five Guys plan to open very first restaurant in Hull

An exciting new addition to Hull’s food scene is in the works, as planning has been submitted to Hull City Council for a Five Guys restaurant and drive-thru at Kingswood. If approved, this would mark the first Hull-based branch of the popular US fast-food chain, which currently has its nearest outlet in York.

The proposed restaurant is set to rise in Kingswood Leisure Park, situated off Gibraltar Way, in front of Cineworld and Hollywood Bowl. Boasting over 1,700 global locations, the addition of Five Guys would augment an already diverse culinary offering at the Leisure Park, featuring the likes of Pizza Hut, Costa, Greggs, Subway, the Beefeater pub, and the recently opened Taco Bell and Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s anticipated that this venture could generate up to 40 local jobs.

Previously, developers had considered transforming the vacant WHSmith store into the restaurant, however, its mid-terrace location proved incompatible with the drive-thru requirements. Instead, the proposal outlines a new structure spanning 257.7 square meters, complemented by a 12.4 square meter store, waste bins, greenery, two service hatches, a drive-thru lane, and around 15 parking spaces.

Five Guys, an American fast-food sensation since its inception in 1986, first ventured into the UK market with a Covent Garden opening in 2013. It’s well-loved for its array of burgers, ‘beef dogs’, and sandwiches like BLT and grilled cheese, all garnished with an unlimited choice of complimentary toppings. The restaurant’s custom-made milkshakes also have a following.

Hull City Council is currently accepting comments on the Five Guys proposal via their planning portal, where it can be found under the reference number: 23/02798/.
