The first Half Term of the year is nearly here, from 9 Feb to 19 Feb! Planning ahead for half-terms can often be a bit tricky, leaving many parents in a bit of a pickle trying to line up local events, activities, and plans.

But don’t worry, we’ve got your back! We and Hull & East Riding Mumbler have curated an excellent selection of local events (with many free options too), ideal for any family on the lookout for entertaining and enlightening experiences this February half-term. In case you’re finding it a challenge to put together some great plans for the week, our roundup could be just the ticket!

Avenues Fairy Trail

10 Feb to 20 Feb 2024

A magical experience awaits at the Avenues Fairy Trail! This annual event, free of charge, takes you on a whimsical journey through the streets of the Avenues, Dukeries, Ella Street, and Pearson Park. It’s a perfect adventure for families, inviting you to explore and discover enchanting fairy sights around every corner.

Sewerby Hall & Gardens

Open Daily

Step into the serene world of Sewerby Hall & Gardens, where admission to the grounds and gardens is absolutely free until Friday 22 March 2024! While charges apply for the zoo and house, the expansive gardens offer a peaceful retreat where children can run free and explore nature’s beauty.

Active Coast is here to ensure your half-term is filled with energy and smiles! Offering a variety of free family activities at Bridlington, Hornsea, and Withernsea, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Hull Museums’ Crafts and Activities

12 Feb to 16 Feb 2024

Hull Museums are a treasure trove of activities this half term, with a lineup of free crafts and events at Streetlife Museum, Hull & East Riding Museum, and Ferens Art Gallery. Whether it’s creating mini masterpieces or exploring history through crafts, these sessions are perfect for families looking to add a touch of creativity to their week.

  • 12th February, 1-3pm: Mini-Shop Making, Streetlife Museum. Make you own mini-model shop inspired by the shops in the Streetlife Museum. Free, drop-in
  • 13th February, 1-3pm: Mini Masterpieces, Ferens Art Gallery. Art activities for children aged 5 and under and their families, inspired by the amazing artworks in Ferens Art Gallery. Older siblings are welcome. Free, drop-in.
  • 14th February, 10am-11am, 11am-12pm: Relaxed Family Craft session, Hull and East Riding Museum. Family craft session designed for children who are neurodivergent, have a disability or experience anxiety, in a quieter environment with limited numbers. Free, booking essential here.
  • 14th February, 1-3pm: Terrific Tiles, Hull and East Riding Museum. Decorate your own tile to take home inspired by the historic collections. Free drop-in.
  • 15th February, 10am-11am, 11.30am-12.30pm: Dinosaur Explorers, Hull and East Riding Museum. Under 5s Session with Edens Baby Experiences, a fun dinosaur and fossil-themed sensory activity session, Free, booking is essential here.
  • 16th February, 1-3pm: Picture This, Ferens Art Gallery. Create your own picture frame for a favourite photo or drawing. Free, drop-in.

Jorvik Viking Festival, York

12 Feb to 18 Feb 2024

Venture out to York for the thrilling Jorvik Viking Festival! Packed with a variety of free events and activities (and some payable ones), this festival is a fantastic way to immerse your family in the rich Viking history and culture. Check their website here.

Kids Takeover Half-Term Camps Hull

12 Feb to 16 Feb 2024

This half-term, keep your children active and engaged with Kids Takeover camps at Hymers College. The programme offers a variety of sports, dance, and fun activities, tailored for children aged 5 to 12. It’s the perfect blend of fun, learning, and physical activity for the holidays.

National Railway Museum, York

Open Daily

All aboard for an exciting visit to the National Railway Museum in York! Marvel at the legendary Flying Scotsman, on display for all to see. Entry to the museum is free, though booking a slot in advance is required – a perfect day out for train enthusiasts and curious minds alike. Check their website here.

Across Half Term

Various Dates & Locations

Back to Ours is back with its trademark fun! Enjoy the silliest panto in town, “Red Riding Hood,” or get interactive with “Goose! Live on Stage” for the little ones. At just £3 per ticket, these shows promise entertainment without the hefty price tag.

Hull Truck Theatre

10 Feb to 16 Feb 2024

Hull Truck Theatre is setting the stage for a fantastic half-term with a range of shows designed for young audiences. From pirate adventures and Peppa Pig cinema parties to live performances of beloved books, these shows offer an affordable way to dive into the world of theatre and storytelling.

A Great Pirate Adventure: Features an arts and crafts session followed by an interactive play that uses whatever you have made. All adventurers are encouraged to come dressed up as pirates! Recommended Age 3-6 years. Dates: Sat 10 – Mon 12 February 2024. Tickets: £6.50 per child, one free accompanying adult (no adult ticket needed).

Peppa’s Cinema Party (Film Screening): Enjoy 10 never-before-seen Peppa Pig episodes, featuring the voices of Katy Perry as Ms. Leopard and Orlando Bloom as Mr. Raccoon. Recommended Age: All Ages. Dates: Sat 10 – Thur 15 February 2024. Tickets: £6.50, babes in arms welcome (no ticket required).

Shark in the Park: See all 3 of Nick Sharratt’s ‘Shark in the Park’ books live on Stage! This fin-tastic, family musical follows Timothy Pope (and his telescope!) on 3 exciting adventures. Recommended Age: 2+. Dates: Tue 13 – Thur 15 February 2024. Tickets: £14.50.
