Fun for all the family this half term holiday at Sewerby Hall and Gardens

With much more on offer than the usual day out at a historic house, so much more to do and see and so many activities to join in, there is a full programme of exciting events, activities, and concerts at Sewerby Hall and Gardens during the half term holiday (28 May to 5 June). 

The programme is designed for families and children of all ages, and includes a fun day with a Royal theme to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, a car rally and a craft fair! 

Events and activities include: 

Saturday, 28 May: Rusticus Encounter : Barmy Butterfly: 11.30am-3pm: outdoors: a new butterfly has just got her wings! 

28 May: zoo activity: Meet the Hoof Stock: 11am-1.30pm: meet the donkeys, llamas, and goats 

Sunday, 29 May: Wildcats : Seaworld Shenanigans: 11am-3pm: make driftwood creatures, sand patterns and shell art scenes. 

29 May : Orangery concert : Hunmanby Silver Band : 2pm 

29 May : zoo activity : Penguin hat and talk workshop: 11am-12 noon: learn about the Humboldt penguins, and make a penguin hat 

Monday, 30 May : Rusticus Encounter: Forest Fairy : 11.30am – 3pm: a woodland walk to meet the Forest Fairy and enjoy magical adventures 

Tuesday, 31 May: Rusticus Woodland Creatures Theatre: Robin Hood: 11.30am – 3pm: an interactive performance with music, rescues, and a tournament! 

Wednesday, 1 June: Magic Shows and face Painting between 11am and 4pm 

Thursday, 2 June (Bank Holiday): Orangery Concert: 2pm: Helen Drewery, classical pianist 

2 June : Rusticus Adventure : Merry Monarchs! : 11.30am – 3pm: celebrate the Patinum Jubilee by meeting an array of ‘special’ Royal characters – outdoor event 

Friday, 3 June (Bank Holiday): Wildcats: Owl Dreamcatchers: 11am-3pm: make wildlife decorations for your bedroom 

3 June: zoo activity: Orange Fat Ball Feeders: 11am-12 noon: make a fat ball to take home, with seeds of your choice 

Saturday, 4 June: Rusticus Encounter: Bashful Bat!: 11.30am -3pm: crazy outdoor activities, including bubbles, games and a bat rap! 

4 June: zoo activity : Meet the Hoof Stock : 11am-1.30pm 

Sunday, 5 June : Craft Fair: unique handmade crafts, keepsakes and accessories: in the Orangery: 11am -4pm 

5 June : Wildcats: Creature Comforts: 11am-3pm: create a minibeast abode, hedgehog hideaway, or a fairy door 

5 June : the East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club Spring Gathering: 11am-4pm: many historic and classic vehicles on display, and a chance to meet their owners 

5 June: zoo activity : Orange Fat Ball Feeders: 11am-12noon 

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition continues until 17 July, on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, featuring over 100 exceptional images capturing fascinating animal behaviour, spectacular species and the breathtaking diversity of the natural world. Entry to the exhibition is included in the admission price. 

Councillor Mike Medini, portfolio holder for cultural and leisure assets, said: “This is a great programme for the half term break, with something for everybody, even reflecting the Platinum Jubilee! All these events and activities will make for a fantastic backdrop to a visit to the stunning Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.”
