Have all the fun; none of the hangover this New Year

With alcohol-free drinks more than doubling in popularity since 2020*, Hull’s party-goers have been urged to hit one of the city’s Low Ale Trails for the best low- and no-booze options in the business.

With New Year just around the corner, Hull’s three Low Ale Trails are the perfect place to enjoy all the fun of a night out, with a clear head the next day. There are three trails across the city; Old Town, Avenues, and Theatre Quarter & Ferensway, including many of the city’s most popular watering holes – making low- and no-alcohol options accessible for every night out.

From no and low alcohol beers to mocktails and zero per cent spirits, the Low Ale Trails have something to suit every taste in tipples. The trails also incorporate venues offering food, live music and other entertainment.

Cllr Linda Chambers, Portfolio Holder for Public Health, said: “New Year’s Eve is an ideal time to take advantage of the Low Ale Trails. You can plan a completely alcohol-free night out, or just reduce your alcohol consumption.

“The popularity of low- and no-alcohol drinks is absolutely surging, as more of us choose to take care of our health by drinking less. This could include a totally alcohol-free night out, or the current trend known as ‘zebra-striping’, where people alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

“The Ale Trails are a great way to have a night out; enjoy the taste of a beer or a cocktail, but without the hangover or a taxi home. It’s perfect for anyone already planning ahead for Dry January, or generally reducing their drinking in the new year.

“The venues which are part of the trails are as varied as the drinks; from new cocktail venues to Old Town pubs which have been open for over a hundred years.

“In terms of health, the NHS is clear that cutting back benefits all drinkers, even those who don’t drink heavily. It can help you sleep better, save money, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and feel more energetic”.
