A powerful new mural has been unveiled at The Vauxhall Tavern on Hessle Road, a pub long connected to Hull’s trawler and fishing community. The piece celebrates Hull’s heritage while highlighting the city’s cultural diversity, creating a vivid reminder of the people and stories that helped shape the city.
The mural pays tribute to the fishing community that defined Hull for generations, while also showing how art can connect history with today’s stories of resilience. Painted across the front of the Vauxhall Tavern, it reflects both the city’s proud past and its ongoing spirit of community.

Created by Ukrainian refugee artist Yeseniia Serdiuk, the mural also brings in the perspective of a young artist contributing to Hull’s identity. Serdiuk has made Hull her home and her work often blends abstract and realistic styles. She has previously exhibited at Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, Fronteer Gallery in Sheffield, The House of Smalls in Edinburgh, and even the Palace of Westminster.

This latest addition to Hessle Road is more than just decoration. It is a celebration of Hull’s fishing heritage, a reminder of the city’s cultural diversity, and an example of how public art can preserve history while inspiring future generations.
