Sound the alarm, the pubs are back! In fact they’ve been back for over a week now and it’s been absolutely amazing to see Hull’s local pubs booked and busy; which unfortunately for my bank account, hasn’t helped.
We’ve been shouting out some of our favourite pubs and letting you know about some of the fantastic beer gardens that are either open or opening soon across Hull & East Yorkshire. And this week is no exception. We’ve rounded up some amazing pubs across the area so you don’t miss out the rest of this April.
Gardeners Arms
35 Cottingham Rd, Hull HU5 2PP
A favourite amongst students and locals alike, Gardeners Arms have reopened their beer garden to and it’s definitely one to check out this April. Their menu is pouring with the best draught lagers, bottled beers, ciders and plenty of spirits, soft drinks, wines and whiskeys – there’s something for everyone. They claim to be the ‘home of beer, burgers and bants’ and I’m willing to believe them; I’ve had many beer and bants at Gards in my time (haven’t tried a burger yet though).
The Minerva
Nelson St, Hull, East Yorkshire HU1 1XE

This traditional, family run pub on the Humber is back with some great outdoor seating after the council relaxed the pavement licensing rules. They specialise in cask ales, craft beers, wines and bespoke cocktails. For the gin lovers, they have up to 50 gins all with their own perfect serve. If food is what you’re after then The Minerva has got you covered with a beautiful pub grub menu including home-made steak pie to freshly beer-battered haddock. Factor in all of this with the beautiful Humber backdrop then you’ve got yourself a fantastic evening.
The Whistling Goose
Oslo Rd, Sutton Fields, HU7 0YN, Sutton on Hull
We’ve been banging on about The Whistling Goose since their reopening this April. Not only because of their fantastic pub classics menu, but for their huge beer garden. They’ve recently reworked their beer garden to accommodate for outdoor dining and we think it looks fantastic! They’ve got all the room and all the booze you could ever ask for.
Pave
16-20 Princes Avenue, Kingston Upon Hull HU5 3QA
Pave is back and serving drinks to the lovely people of Princes Ave. Pave is an independent and locally-owned bar, and is the perfect place to take in the laid-back, friendly atmosphere of Princes Avenue. They got the best quality beers, hand-pulled real ales, and select wines. When they open up fully, be sure to check out their events which include live music, art and much more. There’s no booking at Pave so you’ll have to take your chances on their being a table when you turn up.
The Potting Shed
Flemingate, Beverley HU17 0NU
The Potting Shed is a absolute gem on Beverley’s fantastic Flemingate, and the crown jewel of it all is their stunning beer garden. Said beer garden is one of the biggest and best in Beverley, and because of that, groups of up to 5 can usually turn up without booking! A shed load of cocktails are on offer, including some favourites such as Espresso Martini, Zombie, and Pina Colada. They’ve also got a huge selection of craft beers and ales, wines, and spirits. Also expect to see a nice selection of Gin including Brockmans, Hendricks, and Whitley Rhubarb & Ginger.
Taphouse
70 Humber St, Hull, HU1 1TU
Taphouse is a wicked part-bar, part-brewery, located on Hull’s picturesque Humber Street. They opened their doors in 2019 and often play host to live music, comedy nights and regular tasting sessions. Being a brewpub you can expect to find an ever evolving drinks menu of a rotating selection of 40+ beers, ciders and ales, courtesy of Bone Machine Brewing Company. They’ve also got some incredible food on offer if you fancy it.
Tribal Bar & Grill
Kingswood Retail Park, Gibraltar Rd, Hull, HU7 3DB
Tribal Bar & Grill is Kingswood’s fully-fledged sports bar with all the kit to go with it. Their beer garden is a great options for the Kingsword area and they offer a wide range of draught beers. You can expect to find the usual subjects including Carling and Coors, but there’s also Blue Moon and Pravha which are especially great in the summertime. Also on the drinks menu is bottled cider, wines, spirits and cocktails. You can pick up two cocktails for a tenner which is a pretty nice deal.
The Piper
Newland Ave, Hull HU5 2NN
The Piper has been on quite a journey over the past year – last summer they reworked their space and created a fully fledged beer garden for those who wanted to ‘Eat Out to Help Out’. This year, that beer garden is even better and is definitely one to check out this April. They’ve also got some 3.5 litre self pour drink towers for beers and cocktails which is a nice touch. Rain or shine, this beer garden is the one for you as it is undercover and heated!
Ye Olde White Harte
25 Silver St, Hull HU1 1JG
The pub is extraordinary with a rich history going back to its construction in 1550. Ye Olde White Harte is a grade II listed building with oak panelled walls, inglenook fireplaces, a mysterious skull and has a small but delightful garden complete with a small artificial stream. Ye Olde White Harte’s garden is small but has a relaxing atmosphere and vintage feel. The little rock garden and decorative features on the outskirts add a nice touch. This classic Hull pub is looking to reopen in May so keep an eye out on their socials for booking information.
Larkins’s Bar
48 Newland Ave, Hull HU5 3AE
A beautiful pub with one of the best beer garden’s in Hull. Located on the south side of Newland Ave, Larkin’s has a hearty menu and an excellent range of craft beers. It has a modern and decorative beer garden with lanterns, astroturf, gazebos, booths and pretty cafe style tables and chairs. The bar boasts a wide range of select craft beers on offer from a multitude of different breweries. Meaning if looking to try something new, or just after that unique and exotic choice, Larkin’s has probably got something for you to try!
The Admiral of the Humber
1 Anlaby Rd, Hull HU1 2NR
One of the city centre’s most popular pubs, The Admiral of the Humber’s name dates back to 1447, recalling the royal charter granted to Hull Corporation to elect a suitable and discreet man as Admiral of the Humber. Belonging to The Wetherspoons family, this pub has a beautiful roof terrace, tucked away so that you don’t even know it’s there. There’s plenty of space and a busy atmosphere to enjoy a well-earned drink after work. Plus with it being a Spoons, those drinks prices are pretty cheap for the most part.
The Rising Sun
1 Mizzen Rd, Hull HU6 7AG
The Rising Sun is a great place to relax with a bit of space, moreish food and a cold drink. If you live in North Hull and are looking for a classic pub meal and some friendly hospitality then take a trip to Rising Sun and relax in its exceptionally green, spacious and peaceful garden complete with a beautiful pagoda.
Altisidora
Bishop Burton, Beverley HU17 8QF
A stunning whitewashed country pub in Bishop Burton; Altisidora is peaceful with a superb beer garden complete with blooming hanging baskets. The soothing surroundings, blossom trees, and nearby countryside take Altisidora’s garden to the next level throughout summer. They serve a range of hot food and cold drinks to enjoy in the garden, and if you’re looking for some private dining, you can even book their Chapel. This pub is looking to open on the 17th of May so keep an eye on their socials for booking information.
The Hope & Anchor
Sluice Rd, Ferriby Sluice, Barton-upon-Humber DN18 6JQ
If you’re out and about, nearby to the Humber Bridge, then it’s worth taking a trip all the way to the south bank to visit The Hope & Anchor; a 19th-century pub in South Ferriby. Its sunny garden boasts a stunning view of the Humber Estuary, which makes it really stand out from the crowd. Like some of the other pubs on this list, The Hope & Anchor are waiting until May to open so follow their socials to keep up to date with booking information.
Warton Arms
Woodmansey, Beverley HU17 0TH
Warton Arms is a traditional pub in Woodmansey with a stunning thatched roof and a beautiful garden surrounded by greenery. It also has a refurbished modern interior, children’s play area and a wide selection of food and drink. If you’re looking for something spacious, family-friendly and picture-perfect, then look no further.
