Hull celebrating Bike Week with programme of events

A series of events have been planned to promote cycling in Hull in celebration of Bike Week (10-16 June 2024).

Organised by national charity, Cycling UK, Bike Week is the UK’s biggest awareness raising moment of the year for cycling and a chance to highlight all the benefits that riding a bike can bring, both for health and wellbeing and more widely in terms of the positive impact it has communities and the planet.

Hull City Council is supporting Bike Week and is working with partners to deliver a series of events to encourage and promote active travel within the city.

On Monday 10 June, from 11am-3pm, a launch event for Bike Week will take place in Trinity Square (outside Hull Minster) and will include:

  • FREE bike checks by trained mechanics from R-evolution.
  • FREE secure cycle marking by Humberside Police.
  • Discounted D-locks for sale by Neighbourhood Network.
  • A range of adult and children’s bikes for sale by R-evolution.
  • FREE electric bike try-outs by R-evolution (good for those considering buying an e-bike so they can try before they buy).
  • A cargo bike display by Rooted in Hull.
  • Promotion of the FREE Rusty Riders adult cycle training programme, funded by the council and delivered through First Step Cycle, designed to boost the confidence of those who haven’t cycled in a while.
  • A led ride from Trinity Square to the P&O Terminal, and back, by trained instructors from British Cycling, at 11.15am.

On Wednesday 12 June, the British Transport Police will be hosting a cycle marking event at Hull Paragon Interchange (between 10.30am-2pm) and, on Saturday 15 June, First Step Cycle will be hosting a Rusty Riders session from Holderness Road, booking required.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: “Working with our partners, we are proud to be hosting a series of events to mark Bike Week.

“Promoting active forms of travel, like cycling, supports the council to deliver on its ambition of making Hull cleaner, greener and healthier.

“While the council and its partners are using the week of events as a platform to promote active travel, the aim is to support residents in making informed choices on how they get about for leisure, for their daily commute and for short journeys, both now and in the long-term.”
