Strength in Hull Children’s Services recognised by Ofsted

The many strengths about the support provided to older children in the care of Hull City Council have been highlighted in a letter published today by the sector’s regulator.

Ofsted’s visit to the city in July focused on the services provided to children in care aged between 14 and 18.

The full letter can be found here.

Councillor Linda Tock, portfolio holder for children and family services, said: “This is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team.

“They are totally committed to ensuring improvement and that children, young people and families in this city have the quality of care and support to reach their potential.

“I’m really encouraged by the feedback we’ve received, which encourages the team and I to be even more determined to keep improving the service provided to young people in Hull.”

The positive feedback recognised:

  • Good progress being made by children in care thanks to the dedication of staff and their child-focused practice
  • Social workers take time to get to know children and this shines through their practice
  • Children’s voices strongly influence the planning and shaping of the development of services
  • Significant investment has transformed fostering services and children’s homes
  • Staff retention, positivity and less reliance on agency staff
  • Improvements in planning, practice and stability for older children
  • Strong cross party-political commitment to children’s social care
  • Managers at all levels are accessible and responsive to children’s needs and support staff.
