Hull gears up for a big Christmas weekend in the city centre this week

Hull city centre will be packed with activity this November as a full Christmas weekend event brings markets, music and entertainment to the streets. Taking place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, the whole area will come to life with stalls, performances and plenty for families to enjoy.

King Edward Street will host a full Christmas market across both days, complete with hot and cold food, festive stalls and lots of street entertainment. There’ll also be covered seating so people can relax while enjoying live music and panto on the main stage in Queen Victoria Square.

Princes Quay is joining in too, with a DJ and musical performances on the ground floor stage across the weekend. If you follow Whitefriargate, you’ll come across even more entertainment on your way to Trinity Square and Hull Minster, where the Victorian Market returns on the Saturday.

All of this connects with Hull Museums’ much-loved annual Victorian Christmas on High Street, creating a full weekend of activity right across the city centre.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “We are really excited to bring this exciting weekend to the city centre. It’s the perfect opportunity for families to come and get started with their Christmas shopping in a fantastically festive atmosphere.

“We know the event will inject energy and footfall, giving a huge boost to our local businesses while creating a truly magical, memorable atmosphere for everyone—residents and visitors alike.”

Hull Trains, in partnership with Visit Hull, are also offering free travel on selected services from Doncaster, Selby, Howden and Brough throughout November and December. It’s a handy way for people to visit the city centre without worrying about driving or parking.

Lou Mendham, Service Delivery Director at Hull Trains, said: “Christmas is always a special time in the region’s calendar and we’re thrilled to help people get into the heart of the city with free travel. Hull Trains is incredibly proud of our connection to the community and we hope everyone enjoys a magical day out.”

Hull’s Christmas weekend runs from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 29 November and 11am – 4pm on Sunday 30 November. For more details on what’s happening, head to For That Festive Feeling… It Must Be Hull.
