If you’re looking for a fun day out in Hull with great food, culture, and a bit of friendly competition, we’ve got you covered.
Thanks to Visit Hull, we’re on a mission to uncover the best spots around the city centre—and this time, we spent the day soaking up everything the Fruit Market and Humber Street have to offer.
We kicked things off with lunch at Ambiente Tapas, a beautiful, modern space with a warm, welcoming feel. We started with the Josper Wheel of Tapas, followed by dishes like albondigas con tomate, croquetas de jamón, bacalao al Josper, and their signature patatas bravas—each one packed with flavour.

We paired it with a sherry flight, trying three distinct varieties of this Spanish fortified wine. Combined with the atmosphere and music, it really felt like we’d been transported to a sunny Mediterranean afternoon. To finish, we had the new churros con chocolate—crisp, rich and absolutely spot on.
Opposite is Humber Street Gallery, a space where art, coffee and cocktails meet. We grabbed a mint choc chip frappe and a sky-blue cocktail from the café bar (which uses coffee from The Blending Room and cakes from Scrummy Crumb) and enjoyed them on the rooftop terrace in the sunshine, overlooking the lively Humber Street below.
Inside, we explored two brilliant exhibitions—one exploring our connection to the North Sea and another called Sanctuary, sharing powerful stories and portraits from people seeking refuge in Hull.

After a wander along the marina (and spotting some of the new rat sculptures dotted around), we made our way to Taphouse, a local favourite for relaxed drinks and freshly made food. We tried the mango & lime lassi gose and a Leffe Blonde, and for food, we tucked into a buffalo blue chicken burger, adobo pork cubes, and fries loaded with crispy onions and peppers—proper good grub in a chilled setting.
To add a bit of competition into the mix, we visited The Boardroom, home to high-tech interactive dartboards. This isn’t your typical pub darts—everything’s digital, with games that test your speed, memory and accuracy. It’s really easy to get into, and once we got started, we didn’t want to stop!

We ended the day at Social, Hull’s 300-capacity warehouse-style venue that’s become a go-to for live music, comedy and DJs. We caught Badness, a long-running Madness tribute band who had everyone up dancing from start to finish. The energy was brilliant, the drinks selection was spot on, and it was the perfect way to finish off an amazing day.
