Chris Chilton, Hull City’s all-time record goalscorer, has died at age 77.

Between 1960 and 1971, Chilton scored 222 goals in 477 appearances for Hull City.

Just last year, Hull City supporters helped raise more than £40,000 to contribute towards Chilton’s 24-hour care after being diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Hull City issued a statement announcing that the legend passed away overnight and that their thoughts are with the Chilton family and their friends.

“Club flags will fly at half-mast as we remember a man who was simply worshipped by the thousands that watched him play at Boothferry Park, and whose goal-scoring exploits may never be bettered.”

Chris made his City debut as a teenager in 1960 and quickly became the forefront for the team’s legendary forward line.

1964 saw the begging of the legendary front duo of Chilton and Ken Wagstaff who would lead the team to the Division Three title a couple of years later.

Chilton’s playing days at the club ended in 1971 but he returned to Boothferry Park later that decade to join the coaching staff. Later Chilton became assistant manager during the promotion seasons of 1982/83 and 1984/85.

The club statement says that Chilton’s “contribution to Hull City will never be forgotten”.
