Hull City Council is investing £6 million in improvement works on high streets across the city, with 16 locations identified for enhancements.
As part of the process, the council is asking residents, business owners and shoppers to share their thoughts on its Community Highstreets project as the second round of public engagement reaches its halfway point.
This investment aims to renew and support high streets through enhancing the quality of place, environment, accessibility, community services and satisfaction, footfall and commercial spend. It also aims to reduce shop vacancy rates.
Six areas are being targeted as part of phase one – Anlaby Road/Coltman Street, Gipsyville, Grampian Way, Barham Road, Chanterlands Avenue and Holderness Road/Woodford.
The latest round of engagement, which can be done either online or in-person, offers people the opportunity to have their say and input on the outcomes of this grassroots, community-led project. The consultation ends on Friday 24 October.
Several in-person engagement sessions have already taken place. The council is asking the public to have their say at five more in-person events across the city.

- Chanterlands Avenue – Avenues Library, 76 Chanterlands Avenue, HU5 3TS, Thursday 2 October, 3-5pm
- Gipsyville – Johnny Whitely Community Hub, Johnny Whiteley Park, North Road, Hull, HU4 6LQ – Thursday 9 October, 11am – 1pm
Cllr Ted Dolman, portfolio holder for communities at the council, said: “People told us they wanted to see more investment into their local high streets – as a council, we’re doing that.
“This investment will transform our high streets for the better and part of our commitment to make Hull a better place to live.
“However, to get the improvements right, we want you to have your say first.
“Once we’ve heard residents’ views, we’ll start investing to make our high streets better for people.”
Those who complete the survey and register their details will be entered into a prize draw.
Prizes include behind the scenes visits to Hull Maritime attractions, plus Love2Shop gift cards of up to £100.
The draw will be held one week after the close of the survey and the three randomly selected winners will be contacted on 31 October with details of their prize.
