After celebrating one of the best years in the company’s history, Hull-based creative marketing agency Sowden & Sowden are continuing to invest in their people and look ahead to further success in 2023. The agency not only celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022 but managed to secure a 40% turnover growth, strengthen its specialist internal teams, and be shortlisted in the Best Small Digital Agency of the Year category at the prestigious Northern Digital Awards.

As part of this growth story, Sowdens saw success across several areas of its business. This included a record-breaking 59% YoY growth in its digital services after the agency had expanded its team of specialists in early 2022, which strengthened its offer and further built on its sustained commitment to staff training. Sowdens also saw 21% growth in its design Studio while its Production department grew by an incredible 117%, bouncing back better than ever from the impact of COVID-19.

Three internal promotions and three new high-calibre recruits – people are our biggest investment

To further bolster its overall proposition, Sowdens welcomed a host of new faces throughout 2022. In April, Andy Lynch began as Head of Content, bringing 18 years’ worth of professional copywriting experience to the role, having worked with diverse national and international clients. In addition, Daisy Robson re-joined Sowdens in November, having spent five years as a project manager, working with global companies such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Procter & Gamble.

The agency also celebrated its pool of talent from within, with well-deserved promotions for Lead Creative Al Sach, Digital Account Manager Ruby Keable, and Senior Account Manager Beth Gray. As part of its ongoing recruitment drive, Sowden & Sowden will also welcome Steven Jefferson in January 2023, which will add further firepower to its Studio team. Specialising in animation, film and web design, UX, and all things digital Steven’s 20 years of experience will help Sowdens to strengthen its creative capacity across the business.

Paul Sowden, recognised as one of Yorkshires 2022 most inspirational business leaders – shares his thoughts on top year…

Co-owner and Managing Director Paul Sowden says:

“It’s remarkable that we not only celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2022 but achieved so much success right across the board. It’s never been a case of survival for us, however – we adapt constantly to anticipate client needs and have set a great platform to build on. 2022 was good, but we’re determined to make 2023 even better.”

Fellow Managing Director Polly Sowden adds:

“People will always be our biggest investment and last year’s successes are down to the efforts our team put in every single day. We value our culture at Sowdens and don’t have time for borders or egos – we’re just talented individuals who get teamwork and take pride in the relationships we have with our clients. But we can’t rest on our laurels. Although we’ve had an incredible 2022, we’re continually looking to strengthen our ranks by building our internal capabilities and bringing in talented people that can help us take a step forward.”
