Approval has been granted to turn a former bingo hall into a church

Hull City Council has approved plans to turn a former cinema and bingo hall into a new church.

The building, once known as the Cecil Cinema, has been empty since Mecca Bingo left more than two years ago. It sits on the corner of Ferensway and Anlaby Road and will now become home to the Calvary International Christian Centre (CICC).

Currently, CICC holds services at the Reel Cinema in St. Stephen’s shopping centre. The submitted plans, which are limited in detail, indicate that the ground floor will contain the main auditorium, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

CICC also operates churches in a number of cities worldwide, including Manchester, Johannesburg, and Leeds.
