Hull City Council has been awarded funding from the Department for Education for delivery of the Holiday Activities and Food Programme for 2022 through to 2025.

Government has confirmed that Hull City Council will receive approximately £1.4million in 2022 to deliver the programme to residents. Exact amounts of future years’ funding has not yet been confirmed.

The Holiday Activities and Food programme has successfully delivered activities during school holiday periods, in numerous locations across the city, as well as providing food and nutrition to families. Thousands of children, young people and families have benefited from free, fun, healthy and enriching activities during school holiday periods.

Planning is now taking place for Easter, Summer and Christmas holiday periods in 2022.

Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for children’s services said: “I am delighted that we can continue the successful programme, which has previously seen thousands and thousands of families benefit. It is so important that we can help parents during the holidays, to help with financial pressure as well as providing opportunities for young people.

“We are now holding learning events, hearing from our partners and children and families about what worked well and what more can be done to ensure we deliver an even more successful and creative programme in 2022 and beyond.”

The programme will focus on school-aged children eligible for free school meals. Specific events will also be tailored for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
