IKEA is set to open a new Plan & Order Point (POP) store in Hull, bringing its design services to the city for the first time. The store will be located in Kingston Retail Park, occupying the former Jack’s supermarket unit next to Boots, which has been vacant for nearly three years.
Unlike IKEA’s traditional warehouse stores, this outlet will focus on kitchen and bedroom planning, allowing customers to design their spaces with expert advice before placing orders for home delivery.
According to a planning application submitted to Hull City Council, IKEA has requested permission for three internally illuminated signs featuring its branding. No additional approval is needed for the store’s trading use, meaning preparations are already underway.
The application also provides more details about what the new store will offer. It states that the outlet will “provide areas to sit down with a sales representative, along with areas to display samples of materials, colours, finishes etc.” It further explains that “when a customer has designed their kitchen and/or bedroom, the customer would pay for the fitted kitchen/bedroom chosen, which would then be delivered to their home address.”

The opening date has not yet been confirmed, but with planning permissions in progress, it is expected to launch in the coming months.
Hull City Council has welcomed the move, highlighting that the new store will bring investment and increased footfall to Kingston Retail Park, which has seen several unit closures in recent years.
The Hull POP store is part of IKEA’s expansion of smaller-format locations across the UK, following similar openings in Liverpool, Preston, and Stockport. These stores aim to make IKEA’s design services more accessible to customers who may not have a full-sized store nearby.
More details on the Hull opening are expected soon.
