Hull’s iconic blue army of volunteers gave their blue uniforms the night off yesterday and gathered at Hull Minster to celebrate the future of the programme.

The programme, which was launched for City of Culture in 2017 and continued following its success, has received a further three years of funding from Spirit of 2012.

The celebration event last night (Thursday 7 October) also included the premier of a new video that captures the spirit of the programme, which you can watch here >>

The latest Big Picture exhibition from photographer Leo Francis was also unveiled. It includes images of volunteers in Hull and the East Riding.

The exhibition, like previous Big Picture exhibitions, celebrates the individual characters and collective personality of the volunteers.

The programme has moved to VHEY (Visit Hull and East Yorkshire) which will allow the programme to support events and organisations throughout the wider region.

The move will also give volunteers the opportunity to be involved in a more diverse range of events and activities. By operating throughout East Yorkshire, rather than being Hull-focused, it is also hoped that more people from the wider region will be able to get involved in the programme.
