Installation of new Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull to take place this week

Hull, a city synonymous with a rich maritime history, is on the cusp of welcoming its new Lord Mayor this week. Councillor Kalvin Neal, who was recently elected to the esteemed position for the 2023/2024 term, is set to officially assume office at a grand ceremony scheduled at the Guildhall.

Neal, selected during a Full Council meeting on Thursday, May 18, will succeed the incumbent Lord Mayor, Councillor Christine Randall. The handover ceremony is set for 11 am on Thursday, May 25, in the council chamber at the Guildhall, a venue steeped in history and recognized as the seat of local government in Hull for more than a century.

A noteworthy part of the ceremony will witness Councillor Randall pass on the Lord Mayor’s chain, a traditional symbol of mayoral authority, to Councillor Neal. This exchange marks the formal transition of power and underscores Hull’s deep-rooted respect for its heritage.
