With the early May bank holiday ahead and summer having apparently arrived early, many of us will be planning a trip to the pub on Monday. While the warmth is (naturally) set to have disappeared by the weekend, Hull’s Low Ale Trail is a great night – or day – out, whatever the weather. There are three trails in different city locations and 35 venues involved. All have a wide range of non-alcoholic beers, spirits and cocktails, with many also offering food and entertainment.
Having begun with one trail, based in Old Town, they have since expanded to include one in the Avenues and another encompassing the Theatre Quarter and Ferensway.
Phil Wray, Health Improvement and Service Development Manager in Hull City Council’s Public Health team, said: “For many of us, the bank holiday means socialising in pubs and bars. The fantastic thing about the Low Ale Trails is that they give you all the freedom of bar hopping, enjoying a tasty cocktail or beer, but without the negative impacts.
“A day or night out on the trails means you can enjoy Hull’s social and cultural side while staying in control, driving yourself home, and feeling refreshed the next day. There’s a huge range of venues, including many which offer food, music, quizzes and other entertainment.
“Very low and no-alcoholic drinks just keep getting more popular. We can see that reflected in the expanding choice available. We know that our local venues are seeing an increasing demand for drinks like this, which is a great sign people are being really conscious of their alcohol consumption.
“For any venues out there who offer a good selection of alternative drinks, we’re always happy to expand our trails, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want to be part of it”.
