Five must-try restaurants that opened in Hull in 2025

Hull’s food scene has had a brilliant year, with a wave of new openings bringing fresh ideas, flavours and places worth planning a proper night out around. From relaxed sharing plates to destination dining, these five new restaurants have already made a strong impression and are well worth adding to your list.

One of the most talked-about openings in the Fruit Market is Chinese Whispers on Humber Street. It’s a great shout if you enjoy meals that revolve around sharing plates and cocktails rather than sticking to a single main. The menu is inspired by Chinese flavours and built for ordering a few dishes between the table, making it ideal for groups who like to try a bit of everything. Inside, it’s bright, colourful and feels perfectly suited to long, sociable evenings.

You can find Chinese Whispers at 59 Humber St, Hull HU1 1TH, and updates and opening times can be found on their website, and Instagram.

Just over in Beverley, Olive Lounge arrived in May, bringing a more upmarket Turkish dining experience to the area. Everything is made fresh in-house, from charcoal-grilled chicken and lamb kofta to vibrant salads, rich dips and classic desserts like baklava. The space itself is impressive and polished, making it a great choice when you’re after somewhere that feels like a special occasion.

You can find Olive Lounge at 1st Floor, 9 Wednesday Market, Beverley HU17 0DG, and updates and opening times can be found on their website, Facebook, and Instagram.

Back in Hull city centre, Rosedana has added something genuinely different to the evening scene. It’s a striking venue with a menu that pulls inspiration from across the globe, featuring dishes like Moroccan lamb shanks, spiced cauliflower steak and king prawns in thermidor sauce. Cocktails are a big part of the experience, and on some nights you’ll also find live music or karaoke adding to the atmosphere.

You can find Rosedana at 29-31 George St, Hull HU1 3BA, and updates and opening times can be found on their website, and Instagram.

Beverley’s Blok & Vine is all about slowing things down and enjoying good wine with thoughtfully chosen food. They focus on Yorkshire cheeses and charcuterie, paired with wines selected to complement each board. It’s designed for grazing rather than rushing, making it a lovely place to meet friends, catch up and ease into the evening.

You can find Blok & Vine at 16 Dyer Ln, Beverley HU17 8AE, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook, and Instagram.

Rounding things off is Afghan Cuisine on Princes Avenue. This family-run spot showcases traditional Afghan recipes you don’t often see elsewhere, with generous portions and plenty of sharing options. Their Seenees are especially good for group meals when you want something that feels both different and memorable.

You can find Afghan Cuisine at 97 Princes Ave, Hull HU5 3QP, and updates and opening times can be found on their Facebook, and Instagram.
