New luxury hotel, business lounge & café opens in Hull following office block transformation

Hull city centre has welcomed an exciting new addition set to redefine luxury living and dining in the heart of the city.

The former office block on Alfred Gelder Street, previously home to Scotts Property and Kardomah94, now houses Humber Lofts, Ko-Lab, and Koffee Lab after an extensive transformation into a modern complex. Humber Lofts features 20 apartments, including luxurious penthouse suites with stunning city views, marking a significant development in Hull’s accommodation scene.

The building’s conversion, completed in late 2022, not only introduced high-end living spaces but also the Ko-Lab; a vibrant business lounge and café that caters to the needs of Hull’s growing community of freelancers, entrepreneurs, and food enthusiasts.

Ground Floor Renovation: Ko-Lab & Koffee Lab

At ground level, the newly opened co-working space, dubbed Ko-Lab, offers a contemporary solution for today’s dynamic workforce. With super-fast WiFi, private pods, and stylish meeting rooms, it provides an ideal environment for freelancers and start-ups looking to thrive in a collaborative setting. Ko-Lab passes start at £99 a month, and owners get a discount on food and drinks from Koffee Lab too – it’s ideal for anyone from freelancers to home workers tired of the same four walls!

Adjacent to Ko-Lab, Koffee Lab emerges as a gem within Hull’s Old Town, becoming the sole supplier of Darkwoods coffee in the region. This café prides itself on its delicious, affordable dining options, including an enticing new menu boasting an array of brunch items designed to delight the palate. And, all the new dishes can be made gluten-free or vegan – which we think is brilliant.

We gave it a try, and we’re happy to report that from the cookies and cream croissant to the loaded hash browns oozing with cheese, and the unexpectedly harmonious combination of southern fried chicken with syrup pancakes, Koffee Lab’s menu surprises and satisfies. The addition of seasoned fries accompanying new burger options, and the substantial and tasty Tuna Melt Toastie, highlight the café’s commitment to variety and quality.

Not to be missed are the café’s signature ‘Freakshakes’, which perfectly balance flavour and indulgence. The Biscoff shake and Oreo shake stood out when we tried them, but the true showstopper for us was the ‘cake of the day’ special – a milkshake blended with a generous piece of your chosen cake, topped with cream, sauce, and an additional slice of cake! We gave it a try with the carrot cake, and it was absolutely sensational.

We love seeing new developments in Hull, and the new Humber Lofts is a great example of how Hull is constantly being developed and refreshed. We had a great time at Koffee Lab too, and highly recommend that next time you’re in the area, you give it a try and let us know what you think!
