If you’re on the lookout for a proper Sunday roast in a setting that’s a little bit special, One Steakhouse on Witham has just launched a new Sunday set menu — and it’s one of the best we’ve tried.
Opened in October last year, One Steakhouse brings a stylish 1930s feel to Hull’s dining scene, serving up steaks, lamb, chicken, fish, bottomless brunches, cocktails and regular live events.
But its real hidden gem is the rooftop dining space — the only one of its kind in the city — complete with a retractable roof that transforms it into the perfect summer spot.
We visited as a family to try out the new Sunday roast, and it was outstanding from start to finish. To begin, we ordered a mix of starters: spiced meatballs, saffron chargrilled chicken with tzatziki, salt and pepper calamari, and a caprese salad. All four were beautifully presented and full of flavour — a really strong start.
For mains, we went for the roast top-side beef and roast pork (which came with perfectly crisp crackling), while one of us had the steak burger served with huge chunky chips.
The roasts came with Yorkshire puddings, creamy cauliflower cheese, sweet and tangy braised red cabbage, seasonal veg, and the crispiest roasties you could ask for. There’s also the option of chargrilled salmon or wild mushroom risotto if you fancy something a little different.
Desserts were just as good. We tried one of each: the coconut panna cotta was light and tropical with mango and pineapple salsa, the Eton Mess was fresh and creamy with lime and mint, and the crumble of the day (served with ice cream) was pure comfort. But the favourite had to be the rich and gooey chocolate and salted caramel brownie — it was absolutely gorgeous.
If you want a real treat, with quality and freshness in a unique setting, we think £29.95 for 3 courses is brilliant value. With kids meals at just £4.95 too, it comes to around £70 for a family of 4.
We absolutely loved our Sunday roast at One Steakhouse and can’t wait to go back. The girls loved it so much they gave it a whopping 1,000 out of 10!
