An exciting new restaurant is due to open later this month inside St Stephen’s in Hull city centre later this month.
Pitta and Shake is a new venture from local entrepreneur and Frozen Co owner, Alex Lee, and will be serving up flame-grilled meat pittas, as well as American style milkshakes, decadent sides, and indulgent sweet treats, all sourced from local Hull vendors.
Billed as a ‘Subway’ style restaurant, it means customers will be able customise exactly how they want their food and watch it prepared right in front of them.
The pittas themselves are sourced from a local vendor and will be cooked fresh every day. Owner Alex Lee says that customers “won’t have tried a pitta like it before”.
The meat pittas includes flame grilled seasoned chicken thigh as well as breast meat that has been marinated for 24 hours. There’s a choice of Eastern Spices, BBQ Jerk, Peri-peri, as well as unseasoned, and halloumi.
Alex also says there will be a vegan alternative available soon.
Alternatively customers can order a meat salad bowl which includes the ingredients of the meat pitta, however the bread is substituted for a bed of fresh local salad and Mediterranean veg of choice.
The new restaurant is located on the first floor of St Stephens, in the unit which used to belong to El Taco Loco.
This is the first time a locally owned, independent restaurant is opening upstairs in St Stephens, and Pitta and Shake will be taking on the likes of national favourites such as Nando’s, Greggs, Subway, Wok & Go, Zizzi, and Prezzo.
The new venture has already had £75,000 invested into the refurbishment and will create 10 permeant local jobs. Pitta and Shake currently have Restaurant Team Member and Kitchen Team Member positions available. If you would like to apply please contact: hello@pittashake.com
Mr Lee found success over the past two years with the popular Frozen Co which serves frozen drinks to St Stephens footfall. The same frozen drinks can be found within Pitta and Shake, alongside a slew of exported American drinks such as Calypso and exotic Fanta flavours.
Pitta and Shake has a few partnerships under its belt with their desserts being sourced from Beverley based bakery, 42nd East Bakehouse. Their most recent partnership is with Sauce Shop, a UK craft sauce maker.
Pitta and Shake is due to open on 21 June, in line with the loosening of lockdown restrictions. However you can sign up here for notifications if anything changes.
