Pryme Street multi-story car park is currently undergoing improvement work to make it more welcoming.
Hull City Council’s Streetscene services are injecting vital investment into improving Pryme Street car park, to make it more pleasant for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.
On-going improvement work includes smart lighting upgrades, new signage, deep cleaning, general repair, and new road linings at the entrance and exit.
Work is also well underway at the public walking entrance and stairwell, with Hull-themed artwork currently being installed by professional local graffiti artists Mike Sprout, Ella Dorton, and Let’s Have a Skeg.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads, and Highways, said: “I’m pleased to see that Pryme Street car park is receiving such vital investment.
“Not only will these improvements enhance safety and visibility for drivers, but our collaboration with local artists celebrates our city’s creativity and cultural richness, making the space welcoming and vibrant.
“We hope car drivers, and visitors, as well as local venues and businesses will reap the benefits.”
All improvement work is due to be completed in March 2024.
Additionally, both Pryme Street and George Street multi-storey car parks will close at the later time of 11pm, 7 days a week, until further notice.
This is to support visitors to Hull New Theatre and the city centre whilst Albion Street car park is partially closed due to regeneration work in the area.
Councillor Ieronimo, added: “Whilst the development of Hull’s new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Albion Square is underway, I welcome the later opening times of both Pryme Street and George Street multi-storey car parks.
“Supporting the local economy is a huge priority for us, and we hope that this decision will allow residents and visitors alike to continue enjoying what our city has to offer, from shopping to live music and theatre.”
All parking permits permitted for use in George Street or Pryme Street will be accepted during the extended opening hours.
Both sites offer long-stay parking for just £3.
Currently there are no public electric vehicle chargers at these car parks. Hull City Council provides chargers at both the History Centre, and Lowgate car parks.
