Reopening of East Park Gates approved as plans seek contractor

A Hull City Council Decision Record published today gives the approval to progress with plans to reopen East Park Gates.

There are plans to reopen the gates to vehicles for the first time since 2020 to ensure compliance with the Equality Act in regard to accessibility.

It also approves the progression of the scheme to detail design with a view to procuring a contractor using the YORcivil framework.

Initial plans also included the reopening of the gates to James Reckitt Avenue, however following public feedback, this has been removed from proposals.

Reopening of the main East Park Gates would come with a controlled 350m access providing a more inclusive experience for all park users.

Measures such as additional disabled bay parking near the café (within a DDA complaint zone) and footways providing a smooth walkway for all users are also proposed.

All designs would see a Road Safety Audit and Equality Impact Assessment to ensure the park is inclusive for all users.
