Reviewing Hull’s new bubble tea and crepe takeaway

Recently, we had the chance to check out Crepes and Bubbles, a new spot in Hull’s Whitefriargate. It’s where the old Thorntons used to be, and it’s already making quite an impression! The place has a bright, modern feel with an ‘Instagram wall’ outside – it’s an attractive addition, bringing another splash of colour to Hull’s favourite historic high street.

Crepes and Bubbles is a grab-and-go type of place, which is great for anyone looking for a quick bite or drink, especially if you’re in a rush in the morning or looking for a more decadent lunch.

Ordering is pretty straightforward and quick. They have digital kiosks for ordering with a card, but you can still use cash at the counter if you prefer.

Interestingly, it’s run by the same people who manage Roku Asia in Beverley and The Brazilian Churrascaria & Bar on Humber Dock Street. So, you can expect some Asian-inspired touches in their food and drinks, which is a nice twist; the crepes are the first, as they’re served in a cone shape just like in Japan, making them easy to eat on the go. Eating the filling with a spoon and then finishing the crepe is a unique and delicious experience!

We tried a few different kinds: Cookies & Cream, Cinnamon Sugar & Butter, and Double Trouble. Each one had its own special flavour, and the combination of ingredients like Oreo cookies, cinnamon sugar, strawberries, and bananas was really good! Each one is packed with cream, making them deceptively filling for a dessert.

The drinks were great too! I’m a huge fan of milk tea myself; my favourite is mango milk tea with strawberry boba, usually ordered from Ninnsi on Beverley Road. I gave one of Crepes and Bubbles’ versions of my ‘usual’ a try, and am happy to report it was just as delicious!

We also tried a Watermelon fruit tea with Lychee bubbles, which was incredibly refreshing, a Brown Sugar with Tapioca milky tea, which was sweet and rich, the Lychee & Hibiscus cooler which was even more refreshing, a sweet and flavourful Cherry Berry Smoothie, and a Mango & Passion Bubble Frappe, which quickly became a new favourite for me! Each one was refreshing and had a unique taste that complemented the crepes well. It really is a genius combination.

Overall, Crepes and Bubbles is a welcome addition to Hull! It offers something different with its Asian-inspired menu and the convenience of a quick service. If you’re around Whitefriargate, it’s definitely worth stopping by for a quick, tasty treat, so give it a try and let us know what you think!
