Reviewing the new independent cafe in Hull’s old town

Nestled in Hull city centre, the newly opened Koffee Lab is quickly becoming a go-to spot for both early risers and brunch lovers, with its doors open from 7am to 4pm.

This cosy cafe is bringing something different to the table with an all-day menu, making breakfast favourites available any time before closing. Plus, if you’re on a gluten-free diet, there’s a tasty selection for you too.

True to the name, Koffee Lab’s speciality is their drink selection. Their coffee is ethically sourced, specialist coffee from Dark Woods – making them the only place in Hull & East Yorkshire to stock the premium brand. They also make creamy frappuccinos, flavoured ice teas and popular bubble teas.

We kicked off our Koffee Lab experience with a hearty breakfast. The Big Bite, a hefty English Muffin loaded with sausage, bacon, fried egg, cheese, and ketchup hit the spot. The Syrup ‘n’ Squeal Pancakes were a sweet and savoury dream, bacon and syrup on American-style pancakes, and the French Toast was a delightful sweet treat with a dollop of Greek yoghurt and a mixed berry compote on top.

We were back the next day for lunch, and it didn’t disappoint. The Brie & Caramelised Onion Sourdough Toastie was a beautiful blend of sweet and savoury, with a side of crispy fries, coleslaw, and salad. The Filthy Clucking Fries were a flavour-packed choice, with BBQ pulled chicken, melted cheese, sour cream and jalapenos topping a bed of fries.

The Vegan Mozzarella Bites were a surprising delight, with a taste and texture so close to real mozzarella that it almost fooled us. And then there were the Chip Spice Hash Browns. These crispy delights, seasoned with chip spice and served with a salsa dip, were both vegan and gluten-free, and simply incredible.

Koffee Lab is a perfect addition to Hull’s cafe scene, offering a blend of classic menu items with a unique twist, all in a friendly and welcoming setting. It might be new, but Koffee Lab has already become one of our favourite places to eat in Hull city centre!

You can find it at 94 Alfred Gelder Street – give it a try, and let us know what you think!
