Last week, I found myself back at the familiar haunt of Roadhouse on Newland Avenue, a charming American-style bar and grill nestled in the cultural quarter of Hull.
Regulars to this locale, we’ve consistently relished our Roadhouse experiences, but this recent visit had an added touch of novelty: a reimagined menu that promises a culinary expedition quite like none other.

Taking personalisation to new culinary heights, Roadhouse Hull lets you ‘build your own’ delectable masterpiece. With their ‘Crazy Challenge Burger’, boasting four Angus Beef patties and a decadent mix of toppings, I was in food heaven. And for those with a ravenous appetite, completing the challenge earns you a proud spot on their wall.
Yet, it’s not just about burgers. The Ultimate Meat Platter is a symphony of flavours, from the 16-hour smoked beef brisket to the beef burnt ends, each morsel is a testament to Roadhouse’s commitment to quality. The pizzas, hand-rolled right in front of us, and the crispy Southern Fried Chicken Wings, further embellished the tapestry of our American culinary journey.
But what sets Roadhouse apart, especially for Hull & East Yorkshire folks missing the vibes of national chains like TGI Fridays, is its dual personality. While our daytime visit was a family affair sans alcoholic treats, I couldn’t help but notice their expansive range of beverages. From meticulously crafted cocktails to an array of other tantalising drinks, the beverage menu caters to both the discerning and the adventurous.

And as the sun sets, Roadhouse transforms. The warm, family-friendly eatery makes way for a vibrant nightlife hotspot, with live music gigs breathing life into the establishment two to three times a week. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a destination, an experience, a hub of food and culture seamlessly melded together.
The décor, awash with flags, licence plates, and an assortment of Americana, ensures that for those few hours, you’re whisked away on a transatlantic journey, even if geographically, you remain firmly in Hull.
To sum up, Roadhouse isn’t just a dining spot; it’s where American culinary delights meet British spirit. By day, it stands as a robust contender against national chains, offering a taste of the US right here in Hull. By night, it’s the city’s go-to place for a mix of tunes, drinks, and energy.
A true gem on Newland Avenue, waiting to be explored.
