Bold and hilarious: The Rocky Horror Show at Hull New Theatre

We had the pleasure of seeing The Rocky Horror Show for the first ever time on its 2025 UK tour at Hull New Theatre — and what a night it was!

For those unfamiliar, The Rocky Horror Show is a cult classic musical that follows the innocent Brad and Janet as they find themselves stranded at a mysterious castle, where they encounter the eccentric Dr. Frank N. Furter and his unforgettable entourage. What follows is a wild, outrageous, and gloriously camp journey that blends sci-fi, rock ‘n’ roll, and plenty of audience interaction.

This evening, swing, Alex Hetherington stepped into the role of Brad and gave a confident and charming performance, perfectly capturing Brad’s uptight charm. Lauren Chia, as Janet, was absolutely fantastic, with her powerful vocals and wonderful characterisation.  Of course, Adam Strong as Frank N. Furter was a show-stealer, delivering a commanding, charismatic, and deliciously outrageous performance that had the audience hooked from the moment he stepped on stage.

The entire cast brought infectious energy to the performance, with bold choreography, strong vocals, and a sense of fun that radiated through the theatre.

A real standout of the evening was the Narrator, played by Nathan Caton. His razor-sharp comic timing and brilliant ad-libs in response to audience heckles had everyone in stitches — he kept the pacing tight and the laughter flowing throughout.

Audience participation was a huge part of the experience and lived up to every expectation — from shouted lines to enthusiastic dancing during The Time Warp (which we of course joined in with!). Many audience members came dressed to impress, and the atmosphere in the theatre felt more like a party than a typical show.

The production was slick and polished, with great set design and seamless scene changes that kept the action moving. Lighting and sound were spot-on, enhancing every moment from dramatic entrances to big musical numbers.

All in all, The Rocky Horror Show was everything we hoped it would be — bold, hilarious, interactive, and endlessly entertaining.

So if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for? “Give yourself over to absolute pleasure!”
