Section of Rose Bowl reopens following refurbishment

A section of the much-loved Rose Bowl is reopening to the public from Friday 11 July, after an extensive refurbishment as part of the Queen’s Gardens redevelopment.

The revitalised space, which has long been a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, has undergone a transformation, offering a renewed environment for relaxation, leisure, and community enjoyment.

The beloved crazy paving has been carefully re-laid, ensuring that the area is as welcoming as ever. The inner circle is now surrounded by high-quality granite, with blocks individually laid by hand in a radial pattern, echoing the existing Rose Bowl planter walls which have also been restored to their former glory.

The opportunity has also been taken to refurbish the grassed sections surrounding the fountain and the summer planting is now full of colour.

New trees have been added to add seasonal interest and creates a serene atmosphere for visitors. The bedding areas were levelled and re-turfed last year, providing an inviting environment for those who wish to spend time in this rejuvenated space.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “The reopening of the Rose Bowl area marks another milestone in the continued enhancement of Hull city centre’s important green space.

“This restoration not only breathes new life into a much-loved local feature but also reaffirms our commitment to making Hull a vibrant and welcoming place for everyone.

“We’re delighted to see people return to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of this area, and we hope it will continue to be a place for relaxation and enjoyment.”

The pedestrian crossing will also reopen for pedestrians.

The area within the Rose Bowl is now open for public use, inviting visitors to once again to relax and enjoy the newly planted greenery, or simply take a moment to appreciate the transformation.
