Lush NEW Indian restaurant opens on Spring Bank West, serving generations of family recipes

This bright new Indian restaurant has just opened on Spring Bank West, and it’s already making waves with family‑heirloom recipes we reckon you’ll adore.

Shiri’s is the brainchild of Dan Ahmed, who grew up in East London and worked his way through the catering and hospitality world before bringing his dream to Hull. He’s joined by his brother Mithun, a talented head chef who spent over a decade at Dishoom in London.

In the kitchen they’re serving dishes traced back through four generations of their family, all the way to Calcutta – and the restaurant is lovingly named after their mum.

We started our meal with pani puri – crisp and refreshing, with just the right spicy kick – followed by a Bombay street samosa chaat that packed a punch. Everything went brilliantly with the naan, perfect for scooping up every tasty drop.

The one‑pot chicken biryani was a real treat, neatly topped with a bread cover you tear open to dive in. The Tandoori Mixed Grill was a smoky feast of meats, elevated by rich, flavourful sauces – one of which caught us off guard with its heat. Keema cutlets were also a highlight: crispy outside, soft and spiced within.

To round things off we tried Shiri’s Calcutta street chai, a traditional tea passed down three generations, and finished on a sweet note with Gulab Jamun – a delicate dessert recipe said to have once been used as a remedy for diabetes in their great-grandfather’s kitchen.

The food at Shiri’s is exceptional, and with the restaurant open from 3pm daily (until 11pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays), we’re already planning a return visit to their cosy spot at 975 Spring Bank West.
