Sometimes the best family holidays are the ones that don’t take hours to get to. If you’re after a fun, low-stress break this summer that’s packed with things to do for the kids (and relaxing time for you), we’ve got a great recommendation just down the coast.
Bridlington is one of our favourite seaside towns, especially for families. You’ve probably done it as a day out, but if you’ve never stayed overnight, it’s well worth considering. South Cliff Holiday Park is just 45 minutes to an hour from Hull, and it’s ideal for a short getaway by the sea without the hassle of long travel.
The town itself has loads going on for all ages – a huge sandy beach perfect for sandcastle-building, a fun fair with rides and arcades, a small cinema, and some cracking independent restaurants like The Pavilion, which comes with sea views and a brilliant menu. Plus, Bridlington Spa puts on regular gigs and events most weekends throughout the summer.

South Cliff Holiday Park has had some serious investment recently and looks fantastic. You can book a modern holiday home, from affordable family options right up to well-equipped lodges – some even have their own hot tub for a proper wind-down after the kids are asleep. If you’re bringing your own touring caravan or tent, there are budget-friendly pitches available too.
There’s loads for the kids on site, including trampolines, mini golf, a large play area, and the brilliant Edge Aerial Adventure high ropes course for older children and teens. It’s a great base whether you want to chill or pack your days with activities.

Nearby you’ve got Sewerby Hall and Gardens – a top day out with a small zoo, beautiful grounds, and fun land trains to get you around. One runs directly from the park and ride next to South Cliff into town, and another from the leisure centre up to Sewerby Hall. Speaking of the leisure centre, East Riding Leisure Bridlington is a great rainy day option with a splash zone, waterslides, Clip ’n’ Climb walls, a nice café and even a pay-as-you-go gym.
South Cliff Holiday Park is fully booked for weekends during the summer holidays, but there’s still midweek availability at the moment. If you’re hoping to stay during school holidays, you’ll need to bring your own touring caravan or tent! See more info and book on their website here!
For an easy, affordable, and fun-filled family holiday that doesn’t require a long drive or airport queues, this one’s definitely worth a look.
