A beloved piece of Hull’s history is making a splash once again as the iconic Splash Boat ride reopens at East Park for the summer season.
First launched in 1929, this rare water chute is one of just three still in operation across the UK. It takes riders 22 feet into the air before plunging down a 100-foot track into Ferens Boating Lake, offering a thrilling, old-school experience.
The Grade II listed ride runs on weekends, bank holidays, and daily during school holidays, with tickets priced at £2.
Originally constructed by Hull’s own engineering department nearly a century ago, the boat was brought back to life with a major £250,000 restoration in 2021, funded by Hull City Council. The project aimed to preserve its original charm while making it safe and enjoyable for future generations.
“Hopefully many more people will come along and enjoy the experience – even the generations that are not with us yet,” said East Park’s manager, Howard Flitton.
While the Splash Boat is up and running, East Park’s splash pad will stay closed this summer due to surface issues that require a full overhaul. In the meantime, new footpaths and signage are being added around the main gates, with limited vehicle access in place until mid-July.
