Hull Training and Adult Education (HTAE) will be hosting a ‘Tea and Talk’ session at the Avenues Centre on Monday 9 May to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week.

The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness week is loneliness. Loneliness affects millions of people in the UK every year and is a key driver of poor mental and even physical health. Research has found that loneliness has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Loneliness has been an important factor contributing to higher levels of distress, resulting from people’s sense of isolation and reduced ability to connect with others. The week will raise awareness of the impact of loneliness on our mental wellbeing and the practical steps we can take to address it. Reducing loneliness is a major step towards a mentally healthy society.

The Tea and Talk day will offer learners, local residents and staff and opportunity to start conversations, join in the mental health pub quiz and take part in some wellbeing activities.

HTAE will also be taking the opportunity to talk to local residents about their plans for the development of community learning. They will be seeking people’s views about the types of courses they would like to see at the Avenues Centre and at outreach centres across the city.

The Avenues Centre is located at Park Avenue, Princes Avenue, Hull, HU5 4DA. Visit the HTAE website here.
