If you’re looking for a relaxing and creative way to spend the afternoon with the kids – or just fancy trying something new yourself – The Potteries in Hornsea is a brilliant little gem. It’s a family-run creative hub that offers everything from paint-your-own pottery and fun with clay, to memory teddies and themed workshops, all wrapped up in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Run by siblings Caroline and Rob, The Potteries has shelves full of pottery items to choose from – think mugs, mermaid tails, animals, and more – just waiting for you to make your mark. During our visit, the little ones picked out some cute animal figures, while we went for a Wallace and Gromit mug and a mermaid tail ring holder. Honestly, half the fun was just deciding what to paint.
The food is a proper treat too. We had afternoon tea while we painted, and it was absolutely lush – a mix of sandwiches, sausage rolls, homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, and a table full of sweet treats that didn’t last long. The girls had hotdogs, and we made our way through a generous pot of tea. There’s even a design-your-own milkshake bar complete with all the toppings.
It was a chilled-out, wholesome afternoon that combined creativity, good food, and family time – and we’re already looking forward to going back to collect our glazed and fired masterpieces.
The Potteries also runs regular workshops and themed parties throughout the year, including pamper sessions, bath bomb making, wreaths, and even chocolate tempering – so there’s always something new to try.
