Great news for veggies and vegans in Hull! We recently visited German Doner Kebab (GDK) in Hull city centre, and they’ve just introduced a fantastic new option: a plant-based doner kebab.
GDK, which opened in December 2021, has quickly become known for serving some of the tastiest, freshest doner kebabs in the city. Now, with this exciting plant-based alternative, they’re expanding their appeal even further.
We had the chance to try the plant-based kebab, and it is made with soya protein and infused with GDK’s signature spice blend. Served in their signature toasted waffle bread, it came packed with plenty of crispy salad and sauce. We thought it was absolutely delicious and could barely tell the difference from the regular chicken doner, which we also sampled.
The new plant-based doner isn’t just limited to kebabs. If you don’t fancy the bread, you can get the new GDK plant-based doner in either a wrap or served in a box along with their crispy seasoned fries. This gives vegetarians plenty of delicious choices to enjoy their meal exactly how they like it.

A massive highlight for us was the toasted sesame waffle bread. We tried the garlic & cheese-filled side, and it was incredible. If you’re up for dessert at the end, we definitely recommend the chocolate-filled version too.
We think this new plant-based option from GDK is an ideal, healthier alternative for fast food in Hull. Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, or just looking to try something new, it’s worth giving it a go. Give it a try, let us know what you think!
