If you’re in the mood for tacos, quesadillas, or something packed with spice and flavour, Hull’s got some cracking places serving up proper Mexican street food. Whether you’re looking for a new favourite or just want something tasty for your next lunch break, these three spots are more than worth a visit.
Boss Burrito
Over in Trinity Market, Boss Burrito has been smashing it since 2019, run by the same crew behind Dope Burger. The Birria tacos are next level – fried after a dip in spicy broth, served with a generous pot of that same rich, meaty broth for dunking. The Slow Cooked Steak ‘n’ Cheese Quesadilla is seriously good too, and their loaded fries don’t hold back. With veggie, vegan, and non-gluten options available, and the chance to sit together even if your mates grab food from other stalls, it’s a proper winner.

La Cantina Mexicana
La Cantina Mexicana is one of the newest spots on Newland Ave and already feels like a local favourite. It’s a build-your-own concept with tacos, burritos, quesadillas or chimichangas as your base, then a choice of fillings like Adobo beef, Birria pork, roasted chicken, jackfruit, or spiced beans. Top it with cheese, guac, nacho sauce and a squeeze of lime, and you’ve got a flavour-packed meal for under a tenner. We also tried the Pina Colada and Margarita slushy from the bar – both hit the spot.
You can find them at 183-185 Newland Ave, Hull HU5 2ND, and they’re open 5pm to 10pm Monday to Thursday, 12 noon to 10pm Friday and Saturday, and 12 noon to 7pm on Sundays. Check out their Facebook!
Food for Cowboys
And finally, Food for Cowboys is the one if you’re after handmade, bold Mexican food done right. The Carnitas Tacos are loaded with slow-cooked pork, orange and ancho chilli, while the Birria Tacos come crispy, cheesy and perfect for dunking. They’ve got some brilliant vegan options too (banana blossom is a must), plus sweet cornbread that’s way better than it has any right to be. Grab a seat at Brew next door, take it to go, or order through their app and get it delivered.
