We’ve got another fantastic week of live events in Hull! Kicking off the week is Hull Truck’s homegrown production of 71 Coltman Street, telling us the origin of Hull’s beloved theatre. Across to Hull New Theatre, there is a spot of dance in the form of Strictly’s Anton du Beke and Erin Boag in the sensational Showtime, and electrifying Cuban moves as Acosta Danza come to town.
If music’s your bag, then there’s classical masterpieces from the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra at Hull City Hall, a set from ex ACDC drummer Chris Salde, rock music played on a 23 pieces orchestra, and an acoustic set from Scottish folk legends, Lau. Check out the list below.
71 Coltman Street
Tuesday 22 February – Saturday 12 March @ Hull Truck Theatre
Mike Bradwell is on a mission to revolutionise British theatre. He’s sick of fancy plays by dead blokes and wants to tell stories about real people, living real lives. And it doesn’t get more real than Hull.
In a freezing cold house on Coltman Street, a motley crew of unemployed actors gather to improvise a play with no name, no plot, no budget and no bookings.
Richard Bean’s (The Hypocrite, One Man, Two Guvnors) hilarious and irreverent comedy takes us back to the 70s and Hull Truck Theatre’s origin story. It is a roaring combination of comedy, cabaret, farce and drama.
The Lost Daughter
Tuesday 22 February @ Hull Truck Theatre
Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda (an outstanding Olivia Colman) becomes consumed with watching a young mother and daughter on the beach. Unnerved by their compelling relationship, Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of early motherhood. An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.

For the first time in over a decade, Lau present an entirely acoustic tour.
The pioneering Scottish folk trio have always experimented with sound and form; the results have always been complex and thrilling.
Already acknowledged as phenomenal live performers (‘the UK’s best live band’ – the Guardian), Lau arrived at a new creative peak with 2019’s Midnight and Closedown (Reveal Records). That album was produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, This Is The Kit), who said: ‘Lau are in touch with their roots but not bound by them’.
