It’s an exciting week in Hull, with the huge Unboxed: About Us event taking place this weekend. To tide you over until it begins on Saturday, the Bonus Arena is busy with music gigs from Craig David & Blondie, and a comedy show from Trixie Mattel. More comedy in other venues across the city centre too, with shows from Billy Pearce, Chris Ramsey, and more, as well as musical events such as That’ll Be The Day and the UK Pink Floyd Experience.

Unboxed: About Us

30 Apr – 6 May 2022 @ Queen Victoria Square

About Us is a spectacular, never before seen, free open-air event that combines live performances and multimedia installations to celebrate the entire history of the universe, from the Big Bang to the present day. It arrives in Hull on 30 April 2022 for one week only as part of its five-stop UK tour.

• A free open-air spectacular event in Hull exploring 13.8 billion years of history.
• About Us is part of UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of creativity taking place across the UK in 2022.
• Live shows created by 59 Productions, the award-winning video artists behind the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, Stemettes and The Poetry Society featuring poems and Scratch animations by young people from across the UK.
• Hull Freedom Chorus perform a brand-new original score by Nitin Sawhney CBE.

An Adult Evening With Billy Pearce

Yorkshire-born Billy Pearce emerged through the tough training grounds of the northern club circuit to become one of Britain’s most talented comedians.

Born in Leeds, he came to national prominence when he appeared on a talent show called New Faces in 1986. He was quickly snapped up for stage and TV appearances, including five Children’s Royal Variety Shows and three Royal Variety Shows. Multi-award-winning Billy loves singing, acting and dancing.

Uk Pink Floyd Experience

Featuring eight top-flight musicians and a world-class crew, this concert-based production authentically recreates the atmosphere of a Pink Floyd live performance, including impressive video projection on a large circular screen and a stunning light show.

With over 50 years of hits by this legendary band, the highly acclaimed show also features over two hours of songs from both iconic albums Dark Side Of The Moon and Animals as well as ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’, ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’.

Blondie (With Special Guests Johnny Marr)

Garbage will no longer be supporting on this tour. The new support will be: Johnny Marr.

Clem Burke said: “It is a disappointment to have to postpone our UK tour until April 2022. We will now be joined by our special guest & friend Johnny Marr. We’re happy to continue our relationship with Johnny that began with his contribution to our last album Pollinator. Looking forward to seeing all our UK fans in the Spring.”

Johnny Marr added: “I’m delighted to be going out with Blondie, to hear those classic songs every night, and be in the presence of twenty first century heroes.”

Trixie Mattel: Grown Up

2 May 2022 @ Bonus Arena

Mattel is known for being the winner of the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, and for placing sixth on the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Mattel co-hosts the web series UNHhhh and its Viceland follow-up The Trixie & Katya Show alongside Katya Zamolodchikova. Her first studio album, Two Birds, was released in 2017, followed by her second album, One Stone, in 2018.

Expect some music and surrealist comedy that only Trixie Mattel could hot glue together.
