The University of Hull is set to welcome hundreds of visitors to its ‘in-person’ Open Day on Saturday – and has ramped up its COVID safety measures to keep everyone safe.
Hundreds of prospective students from across the region and beyond will be arriving on campus – in order to get a glimpse first-hand of life as a student at the University of Hull.
Ahead of the UCAS application deadline on Wednesday 26 January, the Open Day provides prospective students with an opportunity to get a feel for the campus and city, after an extended period during the pandemic when in-person open days were not always possible for universities across the UK.
Anja Hazebroek, Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing at the University of Hull, said: “We want to reassure all our visitors and their families that we have gone above and beyond to make our Campus COVID-safe. We have geared up our Open Day planning to maximise outdoors activity, manage social distancing and movement around campus effectively and have introduced other enhanced measures so that visitors can feel confident and focus on finding out more about the fantastic student experience we offer here at Hull.
“We are so pleased to be able to offer visitors the chance to come and see our beautiful single-site campus, meet lecturers and current students and find out for themselves what a friendly place this is to be. We know it is so important to be able to visit in person, as coming to University is such a big decision. We cannot wait to meet everyone who is already booked on and encourage other prospective students and applicants to do the same.
“I encourage all those who have considered studying at Hull to come along.”
Remembering her first visit to a University of Hull Open Day, marketing graduate Emily Brown said: “As soon as I visited the University campus on my first Open Day I fell in love and couldn’t picture myself anywhere else.
“I felt truly welcomed by everyone I spoke to, from the friendly ambassadors who directed me around campus to the passionate lecturers telling me what to expect and all the opportunities I could undertake as a student.”
The University is also providing a travel grant to help meet the expense of attending an Open Day.
Anja said: “We know that travelling to Open Days can be expensive, so we are making it as easy as possible for applicants to come and visit us.
“For those travelling over 20 miles, we are making a contribution to their travel costs, of up to £100.”

In recent months, the University of Hull has improved its ranking in some of the most prestigious University rankings in the UK, making it a popular choice for the next academic year, starting in 2022.
The University was named one of the top universities in the Northern ranking* (Yorkshire and the Humber) according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, climbing 8 places from 60th to 52nd in the table.
The University has moved up to number 4 in the Northern ranking (Yorkshire and the Humber), with the universities of Leeds, York and Sheffield in the top three spots.
This result builds on last year’s success which saw the University of Hull climb 17 places from 77th to joint 60th in the table, and named as number 5 in the top 5 universities in the northern ranking (Yorkshire and the Humber).
Overall, the University has now climbed 51 places over the last 3 years.
The University of Hull was also pleased to announce that it had risen 19 places in the 2022 Guardian University Rankings.
In the Guardian rankings, American Studies ranked 1st out of 9 institutions nationally, with Physics placing 7th out of 44. Earth & Marine Sciences ranked 9th out of a total 36 institutions, as Education also made the top 10, placing 9th out of 83.
Information on a wide range of courses and subjects at the University will be available at the Open Day. Popular courses include: nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, physiotherapy and other health related programmes, business; computer science; biological and marine sciences; law; engineering, psychology and sports health and exercise science.
Visitors will have the chance to speak to course tutors and students, see for themselves the £300m investment in the University’s facilities such as the library, accommodation and sports facilities, and get a real sense of life in Hull.
Course tutors will be on-hand to share details of the modules and career experience on offer, while current students at the University will also give an insight into life in the city and what its like to live, study and socialise at Hull.
Other information will be provided on student accommodation, finance, admissions and support, and subject talks via a dedicated online link, when students book to attend the Open Day.

- How many hours of contact would my course have a week? (Meaning … what will my timetable look like? Will there be time to have a part-time job or internship alongside my studies to enhance my employability skills?)
- What’s the cost of student living per week in this city?
- What opportunities does the University offer to enhance my degree (placements, summer schools, study abroad etc)
