Willerby Parish Council have been awarded £9,295 funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of Commuted Sums from local housing developments. The funding has been awarded towards the works at Well Lane Play Area in Willerby.
The funding from Commuted Sums will see the installation of a Maxima Shade Sail on the play area which does not currently contain any shaded areas to provide relief from the sun on hot days, or shelter from the occasional rain shower. There are four benches in the play area and the Waterproof Maxima Star Sail shade will cover one of the benched areas.
Caroline Handforth, Financial Officer at Willerby Parish Council, said: “We are absolutely over the moon to have been awarded this funding by East Riding of Yorkshire Council Commuted Sums to purchase a Shade Sail for our park. The playpark is a well-used, well-loved asset in our village, and maintained solely by Willerby Parish Council.
“The installation of a Shade Sail will greatly improve the playpark by creating an area to provide relief from the sun on hot days; as well as shelter from the inevitable occasional rain shower. We would like to thank East Riding of Yorkshire Council for this award, and also for all of their help with our application.”
Councillor Gary McMaster, portfolio holder for planning, infrastructure, and housing, added : “I am very pleased that we have been able to facilitate this funding from Commuted Sums provided by local housing developments as a condition of their planning approval. It’s clear that this award will greatly improve this play area in Willerby.”
