“Sha la la, Joseph, you’re doing fine! You and your dreamcoat, ahead of your time!” One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, being presented by Hull Musical Theatre Company, is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colours.

Told entirely through song, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics Tim Rice, the musical follows preferred son Joseph.

Kevin Precious presents The Reluctant Teacher at Hull Truck Theatre

Thu 13 Jul 2023 @ 8:00pm – 10:00pm

Kevin Precious used to be a teacher. He enjoyed the teaching part; it was the stuff that goes with it that was a drag. So he left. A funny overview of the pitfalls and pratfalls that go with his former profession; with a bit of pedagogical stuff (ooh-er) thrown in for good measure. There will also be a top circuit act doing a preview as well to make it a lovely double bill of Edinburgh-bound shows. Keep an eye on this space.

‘Kevin’s stage charisma and poise set him head and shoulders above the previous acts’ – The Times

Metropolis at Hull Truck Theatre

Sat 15 Jul 2023 @ 7:00pm – 9:20pm

In the high-tech city of the future, the rich enjoy a god-like life of luxury while the poor are enslaved underground, in the city’s mechanical underbelly. In this urban dystopia, Freder, the wealthy son of the city’s designer and ruler, and Maria, a poor worker, risk their lives to heal the social divisions of Metropolis.

Metropolis was a flop when it premiered in 1927, and the film was heavily cut in an attempt to make it more popular. The cut footage was thought lost, until it turned up in Argentina in 2008. Now reunited with its lost thirty minutes, Metropolis is a dazzling classic of silent cinema.
