Parts of the River Hull boardwalk will be closed from next week in the interest of public safety.

As part of Hull City Council’s ongoing structural monitoring regime, detailed inspections have shown that some northern sections of the boardwalk need to be closed in order to maintain public safety while the council assesses its options for the structure.

Work to close the sections of the boardwalk is due to start on Monday October 18 and will be carried out from 8am to 5pm on weekdays. The work is expected to take up to two weeks.

After the closures, the public will no longer be able to walk all the way from Drypool Bridge to Myton Bridge via the boardwalk. High Street is available as an alternative route.

The southern half of the boardwalk, between Scale Lane and Myton Bridge, will remain open and will still be accessible from the south entry points and via Scale Lane. Scale Lane Bridge will be accessible from Scale Lane and the east bank.

Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for road and highways, said: “These sections of the River Hull boardwalk are very old are reaching the end of their life.

“After detailed inspections it has been decided that the structures must be closed to ensure the safety of the public. Once they have been made safe, we will be able to make a plan for the future of the boardwalk.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause.”

Anyone with queries about this closure should contact the bridges team on 01482 300300 or email bridge.manager@hullcc.gov.uk.
